BLESSED - Song for the Beatitudes

by Judy Rogers

/
1.
The Beatitudes Song Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven Blessed are those who mourn, they shall be comforted, Blessed are the meek, they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness For they shall be filled; Blessed are the merciful, mercy they shall receive, Blessed are the pure in heart, they shall see God. Bless-ed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called the sons of God; Blessed are those who are falsely accused, persecuted for Righteousness’ sake; In the same way the prophets suffered long ago, Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward, Yours is the kingdom of heaven, Yours is the kingdom of heaven! © 2000 Judy Rogers

. Poor in Spirit Chorus: All my righteousness is as filthy rags, There is nothing good in me! Take these sin-stained rags, Cast them far away, Let the righteousness of Jesus cover me! Make me rich in grace, Poor in spirit; Humbled, broken, empty of me. Rich in Christ! Poor in spirit – May His righteousness cover me. Bridge: ”Nothing in my hand I bring, To Thy cross & crown I cling! Naked come to Thee for dress, Weary look to Thee for rest.! ”Not the labors of my hands Can fulfill Thy laws demands, All for sin could not atone, Thou must save, and Thou alone!” (Chorus) Tag#1: “And this is the one to whom I will look To this one,” says the Lord— “To him who is humble, and contrite of spirit, And who trembles…who trembles at my word!” Tag #2: And theirs is the kingdom of Heaven! His rule & reign on earth begun Shall through timeless ages run, And He shall reign forever & ever!!! Repeat 1st stanza & chorus ©Judy Rogers 2000, 2007

Have you ever cried, “O, Lord, my God, My heart is bowed & broken, For we’ve profaned Your holy name, And vows we’ve vainly spoken; For even as Isaiah said, “I am undone! For I have unclean lips, and unclean People dwell among!” Chorus: Have you ever wept, have you ever grieved, Ever mourned for sin? He will comfort you if the tears are true, And He will forgive you, too! Blessed are those who mourn…for sin! There are those who cry though their eyes are dry, But inside their heart is breaking; There are tears that start, from a selfish heart, of foolish pride & anger; ---God is not impressed with all our tears alone, But precious in His sight are the tears that flow… From those who grieve, those who weep, Those who mourn for their sin: He will comfort you, if the tears are true, And He will forgive you, too; Blessed are those who mourn… for their sin. Bridge: Do you remember the prodigal son Who cried, “Father, please forgive me! I am not worthy to be called your son, Just make me your humble servant!” And because he mourned for his sin, His father comforted him! “O, streams of tears flow down from my Eyes, for Your law is not obeyed!” (Ps. 119:135) (repeat)<< Chorus:Have you ever wept, Have you ever grieved? Ever mourned for your sin? He will comfort you, if the tears are true, And He will forgive you, too! Blessed are those who mourn for sin. ©2001-2007Judy Rogers

The Meek 03:10
To be like Jesus, to walk in His steps, To have His spirit of gentleness, To be forgiving, humble & true, Living like Jesus, In all that I do! When He was beaten, rejected & cursed, “Father, forgive them!” Were His only words, Like a lamb to the slaughter, silent He remained, Bearing our reproach, suffering our shame!! Chorus: He was meek & mild. The King of Kings became a child So He could serve the lost & weak, And He said “Blessed are the meek!” Bridge: O, the meek are not weak, they are fearless & strong, Defending the right & righting the wrong; But when the meek are exhorted, they never take offense, but humbly consider the wounds of a friend. And they shall inherit, inherit the earth; For only the meek understand the true worth of the Kingdom of our Lord, His crown & His cross, and they seek first His Kingdom, counting all else but loss! Chorus: Oh, He was meek & mild…. ©2007 Judy Rogers

Blessed are those who hunger & thirst, Who hunger for righteousness, They shall be filled. (Repeat, this time w/ kid’s choir) 1) Wisdom cries in the streets of the city, “Dine upon delights that I’ve prepared! Fill your soul with truth & goodness, Wisdom & righteousness beyond compare!” Chorus: Oh, blessed are those… 2) If you feast on the fantasies of this world You will never be satisfied; If you thirst for the water of this world --It’s springs are always running dry! (Repeat chorus) Tag: Taste & see that the Lord is good! He is the Bread of Life & the Living Water…. If you will be truly filled, Oh, drink of Him, And you’ll never thirst again!! ©2006 Judy Rogers

Merciful 03:24
Mercy Looks Like Jesus Blessed are the merciful…mercy they shall receive…..Oh- o, I will be merciful for mercy was shown to me…Oh-o What does mercy look like? What does mercy do? Mercy looks like Jesus, Helping those who need us, Giving & forgiving As He taught us to do, And we should look like mercy, too! Mercy has a heart of compassion He never closes his eyes To a friend or a stranger or a brother in danger Mercy never walks on by… Mercy looks like Jesus! What does Mercy sound like? What will Mercy say? Mercy’s voice is tender, Pleading with lost sinners, Quick to grant forgiveness to brothers when they stray, And we should follow Mercy’s ways!! Mercy is a shepherd, searching over treacherous hills for a lamb that was lost; Mercy is our Saviour, shedding His own blood for His children on the cross! Mercy has a heart of compassion He never closes his eyes To a friend or a stranger or a brother in danger Mercy never walks on by… He’ll never say, “Have a nice day! I really must be on my way.” He’s never said, “Be warmed, be fed!”Oh, no! Mercy warms & feeds those in need! Blessed are the merciful, Mercy they shall receive, Oh-o… I will be merciful for mercy was shown --to—me! @2009 Judy Rogers

Who may stand with the Lord our God On His holy hill? Who may dwell in His sanctuary Longing to do His will? He whose heart is blameless, Who speaks the truth and does What is righteous! Blessed are the pure in heart…. They shall see God! Bridge: Even the good I do Is tainted with my sin, Is my one desire for the glory of God, Or is it for the praise of men? Search my heart, O God, And know my thoughts, I pray. And see if there be some wicked way In me, And give me clean hands, and a pure heart! 2nd Bridge: We shall see God in His Son this side of Heaven, by grace; And we shall be like Him when we see Him FACE TO FACE!!! Repeat 1st verse: Who may stand with the Lord our God, etc. ©2007 Judy Rogers

Peacemakers 03:31
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Came to earth clothed in robes of humility. Willingly was crucified, For our sin, making Peace with the Father. Surely He bore our griefs; Jesus, the Prince of Peace!! He said, Chorus: Blessed are the Peacemakers, They shall be called children of God, sons of God! Blessed are the peacemakers, They shall be called Sons of God!! Sons of God have made peace with the Father, Through His Son, and peace with each other, Father & mother & brother & friend, And if at all possible, peace with all men! But Sons of God will not sacrifice Truth for Peace at any price; For Peace will never stand alone, But always on Truth’s foundation stone!! (Chorus) Sons of God, Children of Light, Never shall be satisfied Until we shine the way of peace To those living in darkness! But how shall they our message believe, If with our brother there is no peace? Our words will ring hollow, our Savior be grieved, So go, in robes of humility, and make peace… Peace with your brother, peace with your friend, For His glorious Kingdom, again & again! Blessed are the peacemakers, they shall be called Sons of God! Sons of God!! ©2008 Judy Rogers

Blessed Are the Persecuted So great a cloud of witnesses surround us, Saints who’ve gone on before us, Of whom the world is not worthy!* And all were faithful unto death, For the sake of righteousness. Some were beaten, some were stoned, Cast into prison to suffer alone; Some were tortured, sawn in two, Persecuted, destitute, But THIS THEY KNEW: That the hammer of hell cannot break the Chain that binds us to Christ! And distress cannot sever the bond! And the fires of persecution cannot burn the link! For He Who called you at first, Will call you again to Heaven from earth!** Neither life nor death nor angels, Nor all the powers that be, Nor height nor depth nor demons Nor any created things that be, Can ever separate us from the love of God In Christ!*** For all who share in His sufferings Shall wear the crown of life! ©2008 Judy Rogers *Quote from C.H. Spurgeon~”Morning & Evening” May 28 am **Heb.12:1; 11:28 Heb. s 11:36,37 ***Rom. 8:38,39,35 Matt. 5:10 The Persecuted Take heart, you faithful saints! Rejoice in this your persecution! For righteous words & deeds, You suffer unjust accusations; Rejoice, and be glad! For so the prophets long before you, Were persecuted for their faith, And you have joined their holy number! Rejoice & be glad, for great is your reward; Yours is the Kingdom.. Yours is the Kingdom of Heaven! Yours is the kingdom of Heaven!! ©Judy Rogers 2007
