City Streets

I walked the city streets last night
Cold and lonely under the neon lights
And a lady followed close behind me
Tracing every step as I moved on blindly
And as I made my way into a devil's den
This lady called my name and cried out, "Don't go in!"

And she said, "Wisdom is my name and I bring you this warning: If you don't follow me tonight, you may not live to see the morning light."

And she said, "How long, Oh you who are so naive
How long will you turn from me?
For I will keep you from wicked men and from the wayward woman's path
For all the roads that take you to them lead you down to death!
Oh, they lead you down to death."
And suddenly I recognized her
She kept me in my childhood, how could I despise her?

And then my foolish eyes were opened
And everything was clear when the truth was spoken
And wisdom is far better than the purest gold
For she will guard your life and she'll protect you soul

And she keeps callin' out, "Oh, you are so naive,
How long will you turn away from me?
How long, Oh you who are so naive.
How long will you turn away from me?
Don't turn away…Don't…, don't turn away…turn…
Don't turn away from me…away…
Don't turn away…Don't…, don't turn away…turn…
Don't turn away from me…away…
Don't turn away.
